New to yoga? It can be intimating to walk into something you know nothing about. The number one thing I think is so unique about yoga, is its all about love. The teacher and the other students are there to love and support you through your practice. Remember yoga is for EVERY body, make it fit yours.

Here are my top tips for getting started...

1. Listen to your body

Yoga is great for your body but you can get injured if you push yourself too hard. Take it easy and try all the modification to see wha works for you.

2. Explore different Kinds of yoga

There are many different versions of yoga, each amazing and beneficial in its own way (feature blog post to come). Find different studios that offer different types of classes, Hatha, vinyasa, yin, and bikram, just to name a few.

3. Review the poses (See chart below)

There are 40+ basic postures in western Astanga vinyasa yoga. Have an idea of the name of each pose and what it looks like will be helpful. Beginner classes will walk you through each pose and the proper alignment. Keep in mind it might take a few classes before you get all the postures down.

4. Practice in your own home

There are so many amazing yogi's out there with awesome step by step videos. If you don't feel comfortable jumping right in to a class, watch a few of the videos first to get an idea of what to expect. One of my favorite online yogis is Yoga With Adriene Click here to check her out

5. Yoga is a journey not an end destination

This is the most important part, don't rush, enjoy the moment, and know you with always be growing and changing
